Timepiece identification
A friend of mine has asked me to help identify the timepiece in the pictures. As a subscriber to Clocks Magazine I thought I would try you first to see if any of your readers may know directly. It is a substantial piece as can be seen by the two pence coin put in to help scale. The name of the jewellers is J C Vickery but I doubt that they made the movement which does not bear a maker’s name.
My friend would like to know what its purpose was? He thinks it may be a secondary ship’s chronometer or railway timekeeper. The silver hallmark dates the silverwork at 1904.
I would be very grateful if readers could give an opinion as to what it is.
