A perfect set of tooling shims

When using a small centre lathe with very small diameters to be created there is always the problem of packing the cutting tool to exactly the right centre height.

Packings that are available are always too thick or too thin. The way that I have found to overcome this is to use an old set of feeler gauges. We all have them with two or three of the finer ones bent slightly! Drill out the holding rivet and ‘presto’ you have a perfect set of tooling shims.

These will always pack into any thickness that is required.
