Cleaning a rusty clock chain

Place the chain on two or three layers of kitchen paper towel. Spray with WD40. Fold into bundle. Rub/tumble between cupped hands for about two minutes or as long as it takes to remove the rust, leaving the chain shining and lubricated. The rust and surplus WD40 will migrate into the kitchen towel and surprisingly the paper towel does not disintegrate. Remember to wear protective gloves.
